Holywell September Maintenance
There will be maintenance carried out on the Holywell course on the week commencing Monday 16th September. The team will be solid-tining the greens with a 7 inch tine to help reduce the organic matter levels in the soil. The greens will then be overseeded with fescue grass and top-dressed.
As can be seen in the photos below, there has been a severe outbreak of Dollar Spot on the 5th green of the Holywell Course. This green on the Holywell Course is very low-lying and is covered by the shade. With the limited airflow and daylight it is a prime area for disease, especially Dollar Spot. We will therefore be aerating this green with a 7 inch hollow tine and installing a temporary green from Monday 16th September. This will give the green the best chance to make a speedy recovery from the disease.
We will also be completing drainage works across the 6th fairway this Autumn in an attempt to improve the general drainage on the newer 9 holes. The current drainage system means too much water exits around the low-lying 4th green. We are aiming to divert water from the 6th pond further upstream to alleviate the pressure near the 4th green.
We remain focused on the Club management’s aims of maintaining the standards of the Holywell Course to that of the Church Course.
Yours sincerely,
George Tunbridge
General Manager
