CAW Cornish Bowl

On Sunday 5th January St Enodoc played Porthpean at West Cornwall GC. In the quarter final of the Cornish bowl. The weather was a little inclement, raining and windy all day. The course was presented in excellent condition, and we were looked after very well.

We Fielded the same side that won in the last round with Ben and Tom starting the match in good spirits. They had a tough task and sadly lost by one hole on the 18th. Nick and Richard followed with a match always in contention and fought through to win 3 and 2. Keith and Oli followed but they had a tough task with the opposition putting extremely well. They closed out the match winning 7 and 5. At this point St Enodoc were 2-1 down with 3 needed to win.

Joe and Will, who brought up the rear, played well as always and won 4 and 2. Match all square with one game left out on the course. Stuart and Craig had a tough task but there was never more than a couple of holes in it, they came to the 17th one down, halved the hole in 4’s and moved on to the 18th.

The opposition put their second shot into a fairway bunker which gave Stuart and Craig the chance to win the hole. Match all square.

So back down the first. This tough par three was halved in par so the second extra hole beckoned. After two good drives Porthpean put their second shot long and we were short. Unfortunately, we missed the green and Porthpean chipped on and two putted to win the hole and the match. 3-2.

I could not be prouder of my team and would like to congratulate them on their efforts.
We will have to try again next year!

Team Captain,
Andy Golding.
