Annie and Bob Cruse
Yesterday saw some of our Members compete for the Bray Bowl on the Church Course. These brave pairings dared to play one of the toughest formats in golf – a mixed foursomes medal! Their efforts were rewarded by a stunning day on the Links but those who were directionally challenged found themselves punished by some gnarly rough, just as it should be at this time of year. Runners up, on count back from John and Sharon Twiggs, were Jeff & Maria Buckley with a nett 75. Winners by 4 shots (nett 71) were the formidable Cruse team – congratulations Bob and Annie, thoroughly deserved.
Louis Archer above with fellow Club Member and Ladies County Champion Kira Barnes – Dare we dream of the Double ?
Louis Archer after two hard fought matches today is through to the 36 hole final tomorrow (0845 tee off) of the Cornwall Golf Union 2023 Amateur Championships. In this morning’s quarter-final Louis was 4 down after 14 holes but fought back to win by 1, this afternoon his match again went to the last hole.
Playing at Newquay GC Louis will be trying to emulate Joe Cruse who won at the same venue in 2016.
It’s quarter final day at the County Champs in Newquay.
Good luck Louis.
Congratulations to Joe Combellack on winning the Lawrence Cup today with 37 points during County Week at Newquay
The St Enodoc Annodata B Team played host to the ‘B’ Team from St Mellion on a clear and calm day at St Enodoc.
The course was in great condition and the matches were played in great spirit. A credit to all involved.
Neil Robinson earned a hard-fought win to give us an early lead but not everything went our way. After the first four matches we were 2-2 so it all came down to the final match and Dave Lupton turned on a stellar performance to give St Enodoc the win.
Thank you to the St Mellion team for being great competitors and to the clubhouse staff for the usual great service before and afterwards.

On Sunday the 7th May, the first of two teams from St Enodoc made a short journey across the valley to The Point at Polzeath for the 1st round of this year’s Annodata Matchplay.
The competition is a 5 man team event, each man playing individual matchplay against a drawn opponent.
The course at The Point was presented in immaculate condition and the weather warm and sunny.
The St Enodoc Team comprised of John Rowe, Richard Blake, John Twiggs, David Collick and Lewis Bradley, Lewis standing in as replacement at the last minute.
Despite some really good golf from both sides the deciding factor was the green speed, St Enodoc’s team to a man being unable to adapt to the true but much slower green speeds on the day.
The Point won the match with a convincing scoreline 4.5 / 0.5, St Enodoc’s John Twiggs securing the only half point.
Thankyou to The Point for such an enjoyable afternoon and best wishes for the next round.

This years Open Mixed Greensomes was held on Sunday 23rd April. Predictably there were plenty of April showers for the 68 pairs to cope with on the Church Course.
In the worst of the weather and first group out were Tim & Mary Green from Chelsfield Lakes and High Elms Golf Clubs with an excellent 42 points which, by way of a better back nine from Alun George (Kingswood G&CC) and Wendy George (Tavistock Golf Club) was good enough to win the event.
Third place (39) went to Nick & Kath Farrant from Weston Super Mare with 4th (38) going to Alex & Jenny Glover from Tavistock GC & St Mellion GC.
