The 2024 Club Championships took place on Saturday 13th July in beautiful sunshine and a refreshing breeze. The 36-hole medal is not everyone’s cup of tea but over 60 of our Members rose to the challenge, testing their mental and physical stamina. At the halfway point In the Championship (best gross), three ladies, Jan Harrison, Jenny and Holly Justice, only had three shots between them. The Men, Mark Justice, Louis Archer and Dave Lupton also found themselves in the same situation with Steve Carhart and Kai Dingle hot on their heels. The afternoon round saw some excellent golf from all contenders. Congratulations to Louis Archer winner of The Magor Gold Medal (gross 139) and to Jenny Justice winner of the Ladies Strokeplay Cup (gross 154).
In the Nett competition it was Andrew Jones who took the Men’s title, winning the Woodcote Cup, with a Nett 138, winning on count back from Shane Dingle. For the Ladies Jules Finch (who had the round of her life in the afternoon with a nett 65) won the Foster Centenary Trophy with a combined score of 142, Cath Hopkins being the runner up.
A special mention must go to Josh Taylor and Jules Finch who improved their AM to PM scores by 13 and 12 shots respectively.
I would like to thank all competitors for making the day a success and to the Greens, Bar and Kitchen teams for looking after us so well. The course played beautifully and we were very well looked after in the Clubhouse. My biggest thank you is to Chris Smyth who was there from start to finish and without whom the day would not have run so smoothly.
