Match Report – Presidents Trophy – 1st Round

Match played at The Point GC on Sunday 3rd November

After receiving a Bye in the Preliminary Round, the St Enodoc President’s Trophy Team of

Liam & Quinn, Dave Bickford, Dave Collick, Kai, Dave Hollyoak, James Hutchings, Kevin Preater and Mike Smith arrived at The Point GC to play what proved to be a very strong side from Tehidy Park GC in one of the 1st round matches of this seasons competition.

With the rain staying away, and very little wind, the playing conditions were very favourable for both teams, and with Dave Bickford returning a fantastic 7&6 win over his opponent, which was quickly followed by wins for both Kevin Preater and Mike Smith, hopes were raised that that the match maybe swinging in favour of St Enodoc. However, it was at this point that Tehidy began their fight-back, and although several games were decided on the 18th hole, very soon it was three games each.

With a lot of good golf being played by both teams, the final result of the match hinged on the last three games on the course. With the lead in some of these games first swinging one way and then the other, unfortunately for St Enodoc it was the Tehidy players that held their nerve and made the fewer mistakes on the closing holes resulting in St Enodoc eventually losing the match 6 – 3. On a positive note, whilst the match was both extremely competitive, and very exciting to watch, it was played in great spirit – a credit to both teams.

A big thanks to the players for their efforts, and to the caddies and spectators for their support on the day, it was very much appreciated.
