In January 2019 the Management Committee invited the Membership to indicate their interest in a number of capital projects. The refurbishment of the Club House balcony was the most popular and desired choice of the Members; this choice was again confirmed by the Members at a consultation evening in October 2019.
With this mandate the Management Committee have investigated the possible technical difficulties of the project and the corresponding costs. The cost of approximately £70,000 incl VAT is based upon an entirely new Millboard deck and replacement of the galvanised steel railings with a 25mm thick self-supporting balustrade - as shown on the CGI images on this display. The chrome top rail in the image will not be part of the balustrade, it is merely shown in order indicate the line of the glass. There is a sample of the Millboard chosen on display in the Club House, the colour and finish of which was chosen by representatives of the Management, Ladies and Captain's Committees. It will comply with the wet and dry slip proof standards of BS 7679. Millboard is not wood and it will not rot; it is made from polyurethane resin, reinforced with mineral stone and surfaced with lastane. The decking will be guaranteed for 25 years.
The choice of self-supporting glass will provide protection from the wind and will allow a clear view of the course and the Camel Estuary beyond.
A local contractor has been chosen for the work and which will commence in October 2021 and with a finish date in December.
A decision on furnishings for the balcony will be made upon completion.
